When I walked into the BUHE launch, I was thinking a lot about the number 10.
What if we could find 10 people from our community who wanted to study an opportunity together? Could they form an LLC, a cooperative or some other structure? Could they pool money, skills, professional experience and relationships and eventually acquire a local business or asset?
The laundromat we used during the event was only an example. The larger question was whether something that may be difficult for one person to do alone could become possible if people organized collectively.
I expected us to talk about financing, legal structures and how much money people would need.
We did.
But one of the most important lessons came much earlier in the process.
