That is the next lesson I am taking from the BUHE launch.
When we first introduced this idea, the most exciting question was easy to see:
Can members of our community come together, study an opportunity, organize their resources, and maybe one day own something together?
That question is still important.
But after the launch conversation, the follow-up forms, the one-on-one calls we have started booking, and a follow-up conversation I had with attorney Anna Marx, I am becoming more convinced that the next step is not to rush toward ownership.
The next step is to build a process.
That may sound less exciting than forming an LLC, buying a business, or announcing a founding group.
But it may be the most important thing we do.
Because if the process is weak, everything after it becomes risky.
If the selection process is unclear, people may misunderstand why they were included or not included.
If expectations are not written down, people may assume different things.
If roles are not clear, excitement can turn into confusion.
If concerns are not named early, they may come back later when money, time, relationships, and trust are already on the table.
So before BUHE talks about ownership, we need to put the process on paper.

We are not just choosing people
After the launch, we invited interested participants to tell us whether they wanted to be part of a future BUHE working group or learning process.
The response was encouraging.
